Dedication is the way to success and success is the way through hard work. Young adults these days exactly know how and what to do for what they want, and it feels good to be writing about people who want to shine with no such signs of stopping and giving up.

A group of four boys, engineering in NERIST, Arunachal Pradesh formed a band in the month of October 2013. Starting off with playing alternative metal songs in the starting years for competitions and shows around the campus and travelling different parts of the country, performing in the national band competition was where the journey started.

Sanjog Gurung on vocals, Arun Pariyar on guitar, Anthony Gurung on bass and Avishkar Bhattarai on drums are the Bipolar Shadows.

The name of the band means dual nature and shadows i.e. a human soul. It is explained as, one can never be on a single side throughout their lives, and every individual has a positive and a negative side which gives us a balanced existence. The positive side, the one that sees good in every aspect of life and the negative one, which reckons with all the evil in life. A band name expectedly with a deep meaning, right? Yes! We all believe in the concept of balance. So, portraying the aspect of life, here is how the name Bipolar Shadow comes from.

The band has not only performed in competitions and shows, but have also left an astounding mark which led them earn many feathers in their cap, which includes the band’s number of wins. However, the ultimate show that was a ladder for them to reach on a higher level was them winning Avalanche at IIT ISM, Dhanbad. This led them to partake at the Thunderstrock Festival. It is a rock/metal music fest which takes place in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is not just a concert but an idea to support and encourage the rock bands and music lovers of Ranchi. Simultaneously, the idea is to donate the income generated from the sale of tickets to groups working for the the welfare of the society.

The idea of Thunderstrock emerged back in the year 2008, with a sole purpose to generate funds for Jharkhand Rock Music Association (JRMA) so that JRMA could further plan concerts for rock bands of Ranchi. The initiative was further taken up by band members from Kaalmantra, Genesis and Sonu Chhetry from the band Sparsh, which were the prominent bands of that time.

Bipolar Shadows’ debut single has been recorded and soon will be released with a music video in the month of November. They are writing songs relating to the happenings in the society, so that one can listen to it when they feel low, and also intends to give an emotional impact to every single listener.

A point that makes the band extremely different is their unique genre that has not yet been discovered by any of the musicians, which is called ‘Math Rock’ with djent elements. This genre is a derivative of different other genres blending the taste of ambient clean melodies and even the ones rooting for heavy neck breaking riffs and breakdowns which is utterly satisfying. The recipe they have created can cater to a wide variety of music lovers.

Technically, Math Rock means extensive use of numbers to create arrhythmic patterns delivering beautiful resonant melodies and djent elements, that incorporates groovy rhythms and breakdowns from the genre called djent. Their influences to create this genre are from the bands like Animals as Leaders, Chon, Polyphia, Periphery, Erra, etc.
