Tshering Leezum Bhutia, one of Sikkim’s most popular singers, is now adding another feather to her cap by working as the team advisor for coach Raju Lama on Nepal’s most popular reality television show, The Voice of Nepal.
She has been in the second season of the show since May 2019, working as a talent coordinator for the blind audition round, currently airing on Himalayan HD TV (Nepal), with the simultaneous release of the videos on YouTube.
Recommended to the The Voice of Nepal team by an acquaintance, the team was elated to have her onboard. With a vast set of skills of experiences, most famously being her admittance to the prestigious KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, making her the first Northeastern to study music in a such a revered institution established by A.R. Rahman. Additionally, she has completed her B.A. in Music from Middlesex University, London and her M.A. in Music & Management from the University of Leeds.
“It is a privilege to be able to work on such a hugely popular show. I am having the time of my life working with talents from all over Nepal. It is also an opportunity for me to bring talent from back home and provide them with this platform,” says Tshering on her experience with TVON.
“Of course, it is a learning and fruitful experience for me but at the back of my head, I always have a lingering thought as to how I can be of help to our music community in Sikkim. This year we have had 3 singers from Sikkim, unfortunately only one of them could go through in the blind audition round, Geeta Sharma from Singtam.”
Tshering’s participation in The Stage (Season 1), a musical reality tv show from India elevated the status of musicians from the hills, encouraging more young people to take it up professionally. ‘Sacho Maya’ her last music video was received positively by Nepali speaking audiences.
The Voice of Nepal is the Nepalese format of the international reality television singing competition franchise based on the original Dutch show called The Voice of Holland. The other coaches on the show for the new season are Pramod Kharel, Deep Shrestha and Astha Raut.
Viewers outside of Nepal can catch the episodes released on YouTube every Friday and Saturday at 9pm IST.
