Mumbai- the city of dreams; a city full of promises. Every year thousands throng the city to turn their dreams into reality and to make sure the promises that city delivers are fulfilled. How many make the cut is a different story, but as the saying goes- “fortune favours the brave”, it’s the bravest and in this case, the smartest and the luckiest who make it.
Mumbai is the ultimate destination for aspirants from other metros who want to make a name in the field of fashion and glamour.
Sikkim, like any other small town, has no dearth of dreamers who want to make it big. This tiny state has seen many of its people venturing to Mumbai in recent years. Most of whom we know have been able to make name for themselves, if not, at least earning a decent living through their talents.
One among them is Roshni Ghimirey. Her claim to fame was her being crowned as Femina Miss India Sikkim 2017. She recently walked the ramp at the famed Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai but making the cut hasn’t been a cakewalk for her.
It all started when Roshni, a college student got selected as one of the finalists for Miss Sikkim 2016. Though she couldn’t win the crown, she finished as one of the top ten finalists. Not winning may have put her dreams at a halt for some time, but it couldn’t stop her passion. Soon she got selected as one of the state finalists for Femina Miss India 2017 and eventually stood as the state winner. However, Roshni couldn’t win the much-coveted Miss India crown. But all her failures fuelled her more towards her passion. After being under the limelight for a brief period Roshni returned to what she had been doing and continued with her college.
The year’s halt was all about knowing what she wanted and how to take it further. Finally, this year she decided to keep all her inhibitions aside and travel all the way to Mumbai herself to pursue her modelling career.
“It was not an easy decision, but my family has been thoroughly supportive,” shares Roshni.
Born and brought up in Makha, a village in East Sikkim, for Roshni, modelling in Mumbai had been a dream too far but very much achievable.
“Lakmé Fashion Week is a reputed event and every model wants to walk the ramp at least once in their life. For me, this has been a dream come true”, she expresses.
She adds that she really feels amazing and is hopeful that it is a great kick start to her modelling career.
It may be noted that Roshni is the second from Sikkim to have walked the Lakmé Fashion Week after Meriya Subba, the winner of Mega Miss North East 2016.
